Date Night & Celebrations: Nicer Dining in Canyon County
When date night or a special celebration calls for something a step above, you don't have to drive all the way to Boise. Canyon County has quietly built a nice collection of upscale dining destinations. Here are the spots my clients and I go back to again and again.
Brick 29 Bistro

Housed in the historic 1919 Masonic Building in downtown Nampa, Brick 29 is widely considered the top upscale dining destination in Canyon County. Chef and owner Dustan Bristol serves elevated New American comfort food with locally sourced ingredients in a warm, industrial-chic space. The wine list is excellent, the service is polished, and every dish shows real care. Perfect for anniversaries, birthdays, or any night you want to feel like you're somewhere special.
Indian Creek Steakhouse
711 Main St, Caldwell · indiancreeksteakhouse.com
A family-owned steak and seafood house right on Caldwell's Main Street. The draw here is the Applewood-fired cooking you can see from your table. Hand-cut steaks including a 16 oz. USDA Prime ribeye and a 10 oz. filet, grilled prawns, and a build-your-own burger made from a blend of ribeye, sirloin, and Kobe beef. The all-you-can-eat salad wagon is a nice throwback touch. They have live music on select weekends, and the atmosphere is warm and celebratory without being stuffy.
Italianesque (Bit of Italy)
1228 N Galleria Dr, Nampa
A modern Italian bistro with an intimate, artful setting. The flatbreads are inventive, the pasta dishes are thoughtful, and the atmosphere is romantic without trying too hard. It's the kind of place where you linger over a second glass of wine and let the evening unfold. A hidden gem in Nampa that consistently impresses.
The Sick Stag
Downtown Nampa (basement level)
A hidden speakeasy-style cocktail bar tucked in the basement of downtown Nampa. The space is dark and moody, the cocktails are craft-level, and the food menu is elevated bar fare done right. It's the kind of place you need to know about to find, which makes it all the more special for a date night or a night out with friends who appreciate good drinks and good company.
Casa Añejo
812 Main St, Caldwell
A higher-end Mexican dining experience on Caldwell's revitalized Main Street. Casa Añejo brings refined flavors and a polished atmosphere to classic Mexican cuisine. The margaritas are top-notch, the service is warm, and it's an excellent pick for a relaxed but elevated night out in downtown Caldwell.
My take: For a truly special night, Brick 29 Bistro in Nampa is the destination in Canyon County. But that's the beauty of living here. You have options within a 15-minute drive from Middleton. Whether it's hand-cut steaks at Indian Creek, craft cocktails at The Sick Stag, or a romantic Italian evening at Italianesque, Canyon County's dining scene is growing in exactly the right direction.
Nearby in Caldwell
Just a few minutes down the road, Caldwell's Main Street has filled in with excellent options. Momiji Sushi and Steak Bistro on Main Street is a solid pick for date night. Covey Cafe on US-20 offers a great brunch experience. And Cattlemen's Cafe on East Chicago Street is an Idaho institution.
Indian Creek Farmers Market
The Saturday morning Indian Creek Farmers Market is one of my favorite Middleton traditions. Local produce, baked goods, flowers, and crafts. It's not just shopping, it's community. You'll see everyone there.
The Wine Trail
Within 20 minutes of Middleton, the Sunnyslope Wine Trail has more than five wineries, including Fujishin Family Cellars, Sawtooth Estate Winery, Indian Creek Winery, Koenig Vineyards, and Ste. Chapelle. It's a perfect weekend afternoon activity, and the views of the valley from the tasting rooms are worth the drive alone.

Middleton is growing, and the food scene is growing with it. New restaurants and cafes are opening regularly as the population climbs past 13,000. That's one of the things I love about living here: there's always something new to try, and the quality keeps getting better.
